Residential Reno

WHAT: This ongoing project explores how an older Gatton home with prominent dark timber and strong architectural character can be modernised without erasing its identity.

WHY: Renovation is often approached through demolition and replacement, despite existing spaces and materials holding environmental, cultural and personal value.

HOW: Client consultations, site observation and spatial analysis have shaped and refined a brief focused on creating a luxurious and contemporary interior while retaining the existing walls and architectural elements. A palette of whites, deep browns and greens works with the existing timber, while lighting, flooring, furniture and doorways are being explored to enhance the atmosphere and spatial experience.

OUTCOME: The project has strengthened my understanding of collaboration and the importance of understanding how a client relates to their home, considering renovation as an opportunity to enhance both the space and the everyday experience of its occupant.
